What's this blog all about?

What's all this about?

Well, I love cycling, and I'm really a little surprised how little love there is for cycling - especially in Little Rock and Arkansas in general. There may not be much I can do to change that for most people, but if nothing else maybe showing others why I love it will get some people interested. Can't hurt to try, right?

So I'm actually something of a cycling newbie. In May of 2011 I weighed 260lbs and was in the worst shape of my life, quite literally. I decided then to change my lifestyle in a way I could maintain (not some bomb-off-the-weight crash diet). At first, just changing my eating habits was most of it, but that only took me so far - I had to get some excercise in there as well. So I had a road bike I'd ridden a few times, but always used the excuse that I didn't know anyone to ride with, and was too nervous about traffic to go by myself... Well, I decided then it was time to fix it. That was spring 2012, and since getting past my initial fear of soloing, I've loved every minute of it! I've worked primarily on just building up my capability of tackling the miles and the hills; I'm certainly not in any competitive form. In November of 2012 I reached my weight goal of 80lbs down, so my goal is to be ready for the 100mi big dam bridge ride in time for 2013.
